SHAVUOT OF CHESED
THURSDAY, MAY 28, 2020
7 PM on Zoom

Shavuot marks the 50th day after the 2nd night of Passover. It is when we believe the Israelites received the 10 Commandments at Sinai. Because they fell asleep, according to the midrash, some have a tradition of staying up all night to study. We are no exception. This year we are going to focus on chesed, perhaps best translated as lovingkindness. We will be on Zoom. But we will be together, standing again at Sinai. In between we will sing and be treated to reflections by the Intermediate Adult Hebrew Class on the Book of Ruth and Chesed. Here is our working schedule:

7:00--Intro and Context--Avot D'Rabbi Natan 4:5, Margaret and Pastor Jeff Mikyska
7:30--Earl Sternfeld on Rambam's Level of Tzedakah and why that's Chesed
8:00--Rabbi Steve Peskind on Rabbi Rami Shapiro's The Sacred Art of Lovingkindness, Preparing to Practice
8:30--Risa Cohen, Al Sholosha Devarim (Pirke Avot 1:2) and Balance
9:00--Cantor/Rabbi Alana Axel
9:30--Gareth Sitz, Poetry
10:00--Rabbi Tom Samuels
10:30--Simon Klein
11:00--Rabbi Maralee Gordon
11:30--Rabbi Margaret and the 10 Commandments

The Blessing for Torah Study is l'asok b'devrei torah, to busy, to immerse ourselves with words of Torah. So dip your toes into the water of Torah and be enriched. Come for all of it, or just some of it.
