Social Action
I am excited to talk about some great social action activities that we can all be proud of and more importantly, where we can all take part!
Blood drive: Mark your calendars for October 9! We will be having a blood drive from 9 to 12 and will be incorporating that into our Torah school lesson plans for the day. This will be great for parents and we will also be giving away long sleeve T-shirts for anyone who signs up in advance. What better way to help ensure you are sealed in the book of life and prosperity then by saving a life (or an entire generation!) Kol Nidre canned food drive: We are continuing our strong tradition of collecting canned goods and other non-perishable food products during the high holiday period. You do not have to wait until Kol Nidre to bring in the food products as we have an ongoing pantry and there are always people who can use our help! We have been asked to raise awareness for the CROP Hunger walk. The 2016 Elgin CROP Hunger Walk takes place on Sunday, afternoon October 16. This will give you plenty of time to recover after you give blood the week before! If you are interested in registering for this walk please let me know. What a great way to celebrate Sukkot, the Harvest Festival. As always we have an ongoing commitment to PADs of Elgin. We serve dinner and help out on the second Monday of the month. If interested, talk to Gareth Sitz. As always, please let me know if you have any great ideas for Tikun Olam/Social Action... or if you hear about a particular event where you would like to help or even lead! – Ken Hilman, Tikkun Olam |
